The effort to
prepare our work force began in earnest during the 1950’s
with the arrival of our first industrial recruits. Since
then, vocational education programs have enjoyed the input
of local industry. As we approach the 21st
century our labor force possesses the skill, technology, and
most importantly, the attitude needed to be competitive in
the global market and a rapidly changing workplace. |

Somerset is home
to Kentucky Tech, one of the finest vocational-technical
training institutions in the state. The facility produces
customized training programs to meet the specialized needs
of area industries. The Industrial Consortium, a group of
Pulaski County industries, works to identify similar needs
in training for the existing and future work force. |
|
The school also
maintains a standard curriculum ranging from industrial
mechanics and robotics, to aircraft maintenance to office
and business skills. Somerset Vo-Tech prepares hundreds of
students each year for the demands of industrial careers. |
|
Our workers’
commitment to building a high quality community is evident
in their active volunteer work. From rural fire
departments, to rescue squad, and the United Way, everyone
gets involved. PTAs and school athletic and academic teams
flourish due to parent involvement. |
|
Our wage scale
when compared to the national average is very favorable as
is the low cost of living. Somerset is an industrial hub of
south central Kentucky and our work force draws from
surrounding communities. |
