Fifth District Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers announced that the Southern Kentucky Intermodal Park will be constructed in Pulaski County at an announcement August 10 at The Center for Rural Development. Federal, state and local leaders joined Norfolk Southern Railway Corporation , Tuesday, August 10, in announcing the Southern Kentucky Economic Development Corporation’s Intermodal Park will be constructed in Pulaski County. The Southern Kentucky Intermodal Park will be built on a 34-acre site near the Crane Plumbing facility located near the Highway 914 Bypass in Somerset and will be operated by Norfolk Southern Railway.
U.S. Representative Harold “Hal” Rogers (5-Ky) announced the site selection at TheCenter for Rural Development in Somerset. A crowd of more than 150 gathered to hear about the park’s location and its potential for spurring economic growth in the region. Rogers secured $7 million in funding from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration to assist the Southern Kentucky Economic Development Corporation (SKED)’s development of the park.
“This is an exciting day for Pulaski County,” said Congressman Rogers. “The construction of the intermodal park will be an important component in our efforts to stimulate economic growth, bringing new and better jobs to our region.” The Southern Kentucky Intermodal Park will provide enhanced rail transportation services to both new and existing business in the region by reducing inbound and outbound shipping costs and will serve the entire region.
